# Translation

> Show the words in a second language beside the first.

A **translation layer** shows a slide's words in another language: under the English for a bilingual congregation, or on its own on a screen for one language group.

To capture: A lyric slide with English above and Spanish below, from a translation layer.

## Add one

**1. Open the slide or theme in the editor**

Add a layer and choose **Translation**. Put it in a theme to translate every slide in that theme.

**2. Choose the language**

And whose words it translates — normally **The Slide's Words**.

**3. Style it**

Like any text layer: smaller, in italics, a different colour.

## Where the words come from

* **Scripture** comes from a Bible in that language, when the slide's reference can be read and the translation is in **Settings › Bibles**.
* **Everything else** is translated on your device, line by line, so a lyric keeps its lines.

Translations are made ahead of time, whenever the words change, so a slide shows its translation the moment it goes up — on any screen, with nothing to wait for. The layer's settings say where each translation came from, and let you correct one by hand.
