# Your first service

> A tour of the window, then a slide on the screens in under a minute.

A new library arrives ready to use: three themes and a **Sample Service** playlist in a **Getting Started** folder — Amazing Grace, Psalm 23 and a short sermon, *Salt & Light* — so there's something to put up before you've made anything.

To capture: The Mac window in Play with the Sample Service open, callouts on the toolbar, sidebar, slides, preview and panels.

## The window

| Part | What it's for |
| - | - |
| **Toolbar** | Play and Edit, Settings, and the panels: Library, Flow, Media Library, Audio, Search, Themes, and the Voice Follow buttons. |
| **Sidebar** | Your libraries, where presentations are kept, and your playlists, which put them in the order of a service. |
| **Slides** | The slides of whatever is picked, as a grid or a list. In a playlist, every presentation in the service, one after another. |
| **Preview** | Exactly what the audience screens show, with the clear buttons and the audio meter. |
| **Panels** | Media, Audio, Flow and Search slide in beside or below the slides when you open them. |

On iPad and iPhone the same parts are arranged for the screen. See [iPhone, iPad and iPhone Duo](https://docs.slipity.com/getting-started/iphone-and-ipad.md).

## Play and Edit

Slipity Pro has two modes, switched with the two buttons at the start of the toolbar.

* **Play** (Present Mode) runs a service. A click or tap on a slide puts it on the screens straight away.
* **Edit** builds one. A click picks a slide to work on without sending anything to the screens, and the slide editor opens beside it.

Switching to Edit while a slide is up leaves the screens alone: the audience keeps the slide they're looking at until you go back to Play and choose another.

## Put a slide up

**1. Open the Sample Service**

Choose **Sample Service** in the sidebar. Its presentations appear in the slides, one after another.

**2. Click a slide**

In Play, the slide goes live. It's outlined in yellow, and the preview shows what the screens show.

**3. Move on**

Press **→**, click the next slide, or tap the preview's right side on iPad and iPhone. At the end of one presentation, the next in the service follows.

**4. Clear the screens**

The clear buttons beside the preview take the words, media or anything else off. See [Looks, clearing and blackout](https://docs.slipity.com/presenting/looks-and-clearing.md).

To capture: Amazing Grace in the slide grid with verse 1 live (yellow outline) and the preview above.

> [!TIP]
>
> The preview is drawn the same way the screens are, so what you see there is what the room sees — transitions, Looks and all.

## Make your own

* **New Presentation…** (**⌘N** on the Mac) makes a presentation in the library that's picked, in the theme you choose.
* Type or paste a song's words into the **Flow** panel, and the slides follow. See [Songs](https://docs.slipity.com/building/songs.md).
* Drag presentations from a library into a playlist to build a service.
