# Connecting screens

> Projectors, TVs, stage screens and Apple TV — and how to make each look right in the room.

Every screen has a role:

* **Audience screens** show the service: lyrics, scripture, media and cameras.
* **Stage screens** show the people on the platform a [stage layout](https://docs.slipity.com/presenting/stage-screens.md): what's next, the time, notes and chords.

Set them up in **Settings › Screens**.

## Projectors and TVs

**1. Connect the display**

Over HDMI, USB-C or an adapter. It appears under **Hardware** in **Settings › Screens**.

**2. Add a screen**

Add an audience or stage screen and choose the display for it.

**3. Check which is which**

**Identify Screens** puts each screen's name on its display.

Slipity Pro remembers a display by the display itself, not the port it's in, so it comes back to the same job whenever it's connected — and it won't guess between two identical projectors without asking.

On the Mac, **⌥⌘1** and **⌥⌘2** turn the audience and stage screens on and off. They work even when an output covers the screen you're working at. **⇧⌘R** (**Refresh Displays**) looks for displays again.

## Making it look right

| Setting | What it's for |
| - | - |
| **Test Pattern** | Focus and line up a projector. |
| **Corner Pin** | Square up a picture from a projector mounted at an angle. |
| **Edge Blend** | Blend two or more projectors into one wide picture. |
| **Alpha Key** | Send a key signal for a video switcher, so the words can go over a camera picture. |
| **Screen Color** | Fine-tune a display's colour to match the others. |
| **2 × 2 Quadrant** | Split one signal four ways, for a device that feeds four screens. |
| **TV Wall** | Make several displays one picture. |
| **Output Target** | Choose whether a screen shows the full output or a Look made for it. |

## Apple TV

Install the free **Slipity Screen** app on an Apple TV on the same network as your Mac, iPad or iPhone.

**1. Open Slipity Screen on the TV**

It waits to be found.

**2. Choose the Apple TV**

In **Settings › Screens**, choose it as a screen's display.

**3. Type the code**

The TV shows a code. Type it in to pair. Pairing lets this device drive it, and takes over from any Mac driving it now.

The Apple TV draws the slides itself, at its own refresh, from the same descriptions your Mac draws its own screens from — so a fade is as smooth as on a projector, not a video of one. The running order is sent ahead, so a slide change only sends a few kilobytes.

> [!NOTE]
>
> No Apple TV in the list? Check that Slipity Pro is allowed on the local network in **System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network**, and that the TV and your device are on the same network.

## AirPlay and external displays on iPad and iPhone

A display connected to iPad or iPhone — by cable, or with AirPlay — can be an audience or stage screen, so a small group can run from a phone and a TV.
